We mentioned previously the three types of self defense for women. One of the physical defense types that is well suited for women is Taekwondo. The reason being it has a high focus on kicking even though the word Taekwondo roughly translates into 'the way of the foot and fist'. In general women have better lower body strength than upper body strength.
Taekwondo's origins are as a Korean martial art and is one of the most popular worldwide martial arts. Taekwondo is popular with men, women and children of many ages. Physically Taekwondo develops agility, strength, speed, balance, stamina and flexibility with stretching being a key training component.
Taekwondo also focuses on confidence and mental strength. For example in Taekwondo training physical and mental strength and discipline is used to break boards. Taekwondo classes are held in many local communities with a range of classes for children and generally mixed adult classes. Training has a high focus on predefined moves as well as defense against personal attack. These are regularly practiced as well as the standard training curriculum.

Self Defense for Women
Self Defense for women is an absolute necessity today. News reports are full of stories about women of all ages being assaulted physically and psychologically. Women need to take responsibility for their safety and well being in this modern and sometimes dangerous world.
So what does self defense comprise of ? Well it consists of several facets as follows:
Physical defense is being able to fend off an attacker however without training you may not have the instinct to protect yourself. That's were self defense for women classes are appropriate. Classes are usually relatively cheap and you get the benefit of fitness, awareness and confidence.
Assisted defense refers to using things like stun guns and pepper sprays to protect yourself in situations where you are attached by person(s) or animals. You need to check with your local government if these are legal in your state and be aware there is a fine line between defense and becoming the attacker. Use of these items can put you in a position of legal attack if the attacker is severely hurt - an unfortunate situation given you are trying to protect yourself from harm.
