Self Defense for Women

Self Defense for women is an absolute necessity today.  News reports are full of stories about women of all ages being assaulted physically and psychologically. Women need to take responsibility for their safety and well being in this modern and sometimes dangerous world.

So what does self defense comprise of ? Well it consists of several facets as follows:
  • Situational Defense
  • Physical Defense
  • Assisted Defense
With situational defense you need to be alert to the situations you place yourself.  For example if you work late and need to catch a train or bus home make sure you sit with a group of people or a train carriage that is well lit and a lot of people.  If you walk home late at night ensure sure walk home via main streets, well lit and populated streets.  Walk home with a friend if possible or catch a cab home if possible.

Physical defense is being able to fend off an attacker however without training you may not have the instinct to protect yourself.  That's were self defense for women classes are appropriate.  Classes are usually relatively cheap and you get the benefit of fitness, awareness and confidence.

Assisted defense refers to using things like stun guns and pepper sprays to protect yourself in situations where you are attached by person(s) or animals.  You need to check with your local government if these are legal in your state and be aware there is a fine line between defense and becoming the attacker.  Use of these items can put you in a position of legal attack if the attacker is severely hurt - an unfortunate situation given you are trying to protect yourself from harm.
